Offer: buying deadlines

Need to fund a buying opportunity before the deadline?

If a supplier, seller or auction house has given you a payment date, the best preparation is a clear one-page picture of what you are buying, what it costs and which documents prove it. Prime reviews requests from $25,000 to $5,000,000 and typically gives a decision within 24 hours of a complete application, though the time until funds arrive varies by product. Start with the panel below to see how ready you are.

What are you buying, and when is payment due?

Funders review a purchase more easily when you can state three things in one sentence: what you are buying, the total cost and the exact date payment is due. A request that says "$60,000 of seasonal stock, due Friday" is easier to evaluate than "I need money soon."

Purchase type matters because it tells a reviewer how the money turns back into cash. Resale inventory, a bulk lot, an auction item and a pre-season order each have a different path to sales, and each fits a different product.

  • Resale inventory or closeout lots: short-term working capital is often the first product reviewed.
  • Repeat supplier orders: a business line of credit may suit a business that buys several times a year.
  • Machinery or vehicles: equipment financing, where the item itself supports the request.

Write down the supplier's stated deadline and whether it is firm. Some sellers will accept a deposit to hold goods while the balance is arranged, and that conversation is worth having early. Our guide on how to present a deal to a funder shows how to turn these facts into a short summary.

All figures are hypothetical; replace them with your own quote and count backward from your real payment date.

How do amount, deposits and paperwork affect the review?

The amount you request, the deposit you can pay yourself and the quality of your paperwork all shape how a funder reads the file. There is no published minimum for time in business, revenue or credit score; each request is reviewed case by case against the product and the strength of the business.

A larger request relative to your monthly revenue gets a closer look, and funders may ask for more, such as tax returns or financial statements, on bigger or longer requests. A deposit from your own cash shows commitment and shrinks the amount you need to fund.

Rate, term and payment schedule vary by product and by the business. Compare the written terms in dollars: total repayment minus cash received. That single number is the funding cost, and it is the one to hold up against your expected margin on the purchase.

Checking your options does not affect your personal credit score, and you are under no obligation to accept an offer.

Decision timing versus funds available

A decision and the arrival of funds are two separate events. Prime typically gives a decision within 24 hours of a complete application, but the time until money reaches your account depends on the product, the funder and how quickly signed paperwork comes back.

Plan your timeline backward from the supplier's date, not forward from the day you apply. Leave room for each step:

  1. Submit a complete application with documents attached.
  2. Receive and read the written offer.
  3. Sign and return any required paperwork.
  4. Wait for funds to arrive, then send payment to the supplier with time to spare.

If the numbers show less than two days of buffer, ask the supplier for a short extension or a partial shipment. Incomplete applications are the most common reason a timeline slips, which is why the next section matters. For a broader walkthrough, read how fast opportunity funding works.

Which documents should you prepare now?

Gather business bank statements, a government-issued ID, a voided business check and the paperwork for the deal itself before you open the application. Having these ready is the single most useful thing you can do while the clock is running.

  • Recent business bank statements
  • Government-issued ID for the owner
  • A voided business check
  • The deal paperwork: supplier quote, purchase order, auction listing or lease offer
  • Tax returns or financial statements, if your request is larger or longer

Our checklist of documents for opportunity funding explains what each item shows a reviewer. When your file is ready, you can start the online application. Sole proprietors can apply; non-profits cannot, and the applicant needs at least 50% ownership.

When is a fast deadline not worth funding?

A deadline is a reason to move quickly, not a reason to accept any terms. If the purchase margin is thin or the goods may not sell before payments are due, the better choice may be a smaller order or letting the opportunity go.

Run one test before applying: expected sales minus the purchase cost minus the funding cost in dollars. If what is left is small, or depends on selling everything at full price, wait for a better deal. Prime's guides say this openly because the next opportunity is always coming.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I request for a time-sensitive purchase?

Prime reviews requests from $25,000 to $5,000,000, depending on the product and the business. The right amount is the gap between your quote and the cash you can contribute, plus any freight or fees the supplier requires before shipping.

How soon will I know if I am approved?

A decision typically comes within 24 hours of a complete application. Funding time after that varies by product and funder, so build in room before your supplier's date and read the written terms before accepting.

Do I need a minimum credit score or time in business?

No fixed minimums are published. Requests are reviewed case by case, looking at the product, the purchase and the strength of the business. Applying to check options does not affect your personal credit score.

What if my supplier will not wait?

Ask whether a deposit can hold the goods, whether the order can ship in two parts, or whether the deadline can move by a few days. If none work, compare the cost against your expected margin before deciding.

Can a sole proprietor apply?

Yes. Sole proprietors can apply, as long as the applicant owns at least 50% of the business. Non-profits are not eligible.
